Join us at The Hero for an evening of Mahjong in The Loft. Whether you’re completely new to the game or already a seasoned player, the evening will be split between beginner teaching sessions and open play for intermediate to experienced guests.

Beginner Players
First time with the game or learning Hong Kong style as a new variant – this session is your introduction to Mahjong. You will be grouped onto tables of up to 8 players to learn the basics to get you confident with dealing, discarding and ultimately winning the round. One of the hosts will be with your table for the first four rounds to show you all you need to know and we advise coming as a pair or a group to learn together.

Intermediate Players
For those who have joined us as a beginner or haven’t played for a long time, this session is for you. We will go through the games learning about scoring points, how to get to a winning mahjong hand and the next steps of this wonderful game.Games will be played to one point minimum and will have support from one of the hosts at the start running through the scoring help sheet.

Experienced Players
For those who have played the game and will be to a three point minimum. Hong Kong Style with house rules added (concealed kong, seven pairs, 2/5/8 pair of eyes permitted).

Three hours with other players enjoying the atmosphere of the Mahjong Loft, drinks and food service with great company.

Note if you aren’t comfortable with 3 points but have learned how to play with points before, we advise Intermediate booking.
